Hospital represented at award presentation to U.S. Rep. DeLauro
[July 03 2014] -
The Hospital of Central Connecticut (HOCC) was represented during an award presentation to U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro in Washington, D.C. at the 14th annual Wenger Awards ceremony hosted by WomenHeart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease.
DeLauro received the Wenger Award for Excellence in Public Policy May 19 at the Ronald Reagan Building Atrium. Award presenters were cardiologist Heather Swales, M.D., FACC, director of HOCC’s Women’s Heart Wellness Center; and Kimberly Gensicki, WomenHeart Support Network coordinator, WomenHeart of Central Connecticut at HOCC, and a Hartford HealthCare marketing communications employee.
The award recognized DeLauro’s significant work in advocating for research and programs for women living with heart disease, monitoring the FDA’s approval process for drugs and devices for patient protection, and supporting female representation in clinical research trials.
Awards were also given to four other leaders who have set a precedent in prevention, treatment and care of heart disease in women. Named after Nanette Kass Wenger, MD, pioneer in women’s cardiovascular disease, the Wenger Awards is the only national recognition for those who are making extraordinary contributions to women’s heart health.
The Hospital of Central Connecticut is the first hospital in New England to be a founding member of the WomenHeart National Hospital Alliance. WomenHeart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease is the nation's only patient-centered organization serving the 42 million American women living with or at risk for heart disease and is dedicated to women's heart health through patient support, education and advocacy.
