Hospital Lactation Consultants Honored for Promoting Breastfeeding
New Britain [September 11 2008] -
Two Hospital of Central Connecticut staff members have received international recognition for their efforts to promote breastfeeding.
Registered nurses Sharon Telford and Patricia Alfieri, International Board Certified Lactation Consultants at the hospital, received “silver medals” from the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action for events they organized to mark World Breastfeeding Week in August.
Events included an Aug. 1 reception at the hospital that drew 25 breastfeeding mothers and their babies. The reception featured information from six community groups, gifts and an opportunity to socialize and network. Other hospital events that week included an opportunity for hospital staff to meet the lactation consultants and learn more about their services and a celebration for the hospital’s Mother’s Milk breastfeeding support group.
World Breastfeeding Week is promoted by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action, a global network of individuals and organizations concerned with the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding worldwide.
