Emergency Department Open House Set for Nov. 6
New Britain [October 30 2007] -
On Tuesday, Nov. 6, The Hospital of Central Connecticut will celebrate completion of its phase two Emergency Department
(ED) expansion and renovation with an open house. It will also kick off a capital campaign that targets a $2 million fund-raising goal, including challenge grants from two local foundations.
The ED open house will feature phases one and two tours from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m., and a 9 a.m. ribbon cutting and brief speaking program. Several area dignitaries are expected to attend. Valet parking will be available at the Emergency Department entrance on Grand Street.
“The state’s third busiest Emergency Department has expanded to improve our level of patient care,” says Jeff Finkelstein, M.D., chief, Emergency Department. “This includes additions and renovations aimed at decreasing patient wait and treatment time, enhancing care quality, and increasing patient satisfaction.”
The second phase added seven exam rooms, two nurse stations, nutrition station, handicap accessible restroom, and needed storage space. The third phase is renovating the ED’s original section, and is expected to be complete by April 2008.
The entire project will increase beds by 11 to 46, with 41 beds in private rooms, and all patient rooms will be multifunctional for a variety of conditions. New technologies include new cardiac monitoring and computer equipment, and multiple 40” LCD flat panel screens to track ED patients. Phase one brought eight new exam rooms, a new nurse station, two holding bays and a new triage area.
Supporting the ED’s expansion and renovation is a capital campaign that includes two challenge grants. The American Savings Foundation has pledged a $250,000 challenge grant to match pledges made to the ED appeal by businesses, individuals, community and civic groups. The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain has pledged a $50,000 challenge grant to match new pledges made by employees, medical staff, and associated medical practices. To date, the hospital has raised $570,000 from initial fund raising toward the ED project.
“We are grateful to our friends in the local business community and community at large for their support of this capital campaign which will directly benefit the residents in our central Connecticut region,” says David Obedzinksi, chief Development officer.
