Hospital Launches Spanish-Language Web Site
New Britain [May 21 2007] -
The Hospital of Central Connecticut has launched a new Spanish-language Web site, www.hospitaldecc.org, that provides information on hospital procedures, services, news and events, as well as contacts for patients and visitors. In addition, the site provides relevant and critical health information for the rapidly-growing Hispanic community.
“We’re pleased to offer another resource to a growing segment of our community,” said Helayne Lightstone, director of Corporate Communications at the hospital. “Today, more than a third of the greater New Britain community is of Hispanic origin, and many of these residents speak Spanish. We hope this Web site will also help us address the cultural differences that can often serve as barriers to obtaining access to health services and quality health information.”
To ensure it is culturally relevant, the Spanish-language site goes beyond a simple translation of the English-language site, putting an emphasis on health issues that disproportionately affect the Hispanic population. For example, in-depth information on illnesses such as diabetes and obesity is available.
In addition, the site carries Spanish-language press releases and articles that address health disparities and cultural differences, as well as calendar items for health screenings and seminars on various topics.
The site was created with the assistance of Bauzá & Associates, a Hispanic marketing communication agency with offices in Connecticut and Massachusetts.
A link to the Spanish-language site is also available on the hospital’s English-language Web site, www.thocc.org. Thocc.org includes specifics on departments and services; phone numbers and directions; admission, visiting and discharge information for patients and visitors; a calendar of upcoming lectures and events; a free, on-line physician listing; and more.
