Physician Elected Hartford County Medical Association President

Hospital of Central Connecticut physician William A. Petit, Jr., MD, FACP, FACE, was elected president of the Hartford County Medical Association at the association’s annual meeting Nov. 6.
Dr. Petit is medical director of the Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at The Hospital of Central Connecticut and director of the Section of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes. He is board-certified in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism.
Dr. Petit received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, N.Y. His post-doctoral fellowship was in endocrinology and metabolism at Yale University School of Medicine.
Dr. Petit is involved with numerous clinical research studies. He is a past president of the American Diabetes Association, Connecticut Affiliate, and was elected to the ADA Hall of Merit in 1994. He is also an associate professor of clinical medicine at the University of Connecticut Medical School. Dr. Petit has published two books: “The Encyclopedia of Diabetes” and The “Encyclopedia of Endocrine Diseases and Disorders”, co-authored by Christine Adamec.
He will serve a one-year term as president of the Hartford County Medical Association, a professional organization of more than 2,200 physician members dedicated to promoting quality medical care and patient advocacy.
Dr. Petit lives in Cheshire with his wife, Jennifer, and daughters Hayley and Michaela.
