Important H1N1 Notice

To protect our patients, we ask that individuals ages 18 and under and anyone with cold or flu symptoms please not visit at this time. Thank you for your cooperation.

Visiting guidelines

  • Limit the number of visitors to two at a time.
  • Keep visits cheerful and brief (10 to 15 minutes is suggested).
  • Speak softly. Be considerate of other patients.
  • Patient privacy is protected by law. Please do not discuss your loved one or other patients in public areas. Also, health information should be shared only with your loved one's caregivers and your family members.
  • No smoking in the hospital.
  • Cell phones must be turned off in patient care areas, but may be used in the Lobby and Cafeteria.
  • Latex balloons are not permitted; Mylar balloons are OK.
  • Flowers are not permitted in Intensive Care and Critical Care units.
Please consult with nursing staff before:
  • Changing a patient's position.
  • Offering help with medications.
  • Bringing food or beverages to patients.
Infection control procedures:
  • Children under 14 should not visit, since they are highly susceptible to infections.
  • Do not visit when you are ill.
  • Before entering and after leaving your love one's room, clean your hands with the Purell alcohol-based hand rub, in dispensers outside each room.
  • Your loved one's caregivers will advise you of additional infection control procedures and precautions.

Visiting hours

To ensure the best care for each patient and a quiet, restful environment, staff may limit the number of visitors and duration of each visit. Changes to visiting hours may be made based on the medical needs of the patient or his/her roommate or other circumstances.

Bradley Memorial campus

Medical/surgical units:
  • Anytime up until 8 p.m.
Intensive Care Unit:
  • Anytime (length of visit at nurse's discretion).
New Britain General campus

Medical/Surgical units (E2, N2, N3, N4, N5, W2):
  • Anytime up until 8 p.m.
C5:
  • Anytime
C4 Pediatrics:
  • Parents - anytime
  • General - anytime up until 8 p.m.
W1 Psychiatric Inpatient:
  • 12:30-1:30 p.m., 6-7 p.m.
Critical Care Unit:
  • Anytime (Length of visit at nurse's discretion)
Family BirthPlace (after delivery):
  • Fathers - anytime.
  • General visitors - anytime up until 8 p.m.
    Children must be accompanied by an adult.
* Special Care Nursery:
  • Parents - anytime
  • Parent with visitor (14 years or older) - noon-8 p.m.
  • Siblings aged 2-13 years - by arrangement with neonatology staff
* In the Nursery, maximum is 3 visitors per baby (one designated caregiver with a hospital ID band may be accompanied by 2 additional visitors)
