Robotic surgery

Both campuses: (860) 224-5216

The Hospital of Central Connecticut offers sophisticated robotic surgery, a different type of minimally invasive surgery that uses robotic arms controlled by the surgeon. With robotic surgery, surgeons can use smaller incisions, access hard-to-reach areas and work in much smaller spaces.

HCC surgeons use the da Vinci® Surgical System, which allows patients to have major surgery with a few tiny incisions. Among the robotic surgery advantages:
  • Significantly less pain
  • Less blood loss
  • Less scarring
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Faster return to normal daily activities

How it works

The surgery is completely controlled by the surgeon, who sits at a console and views a magnified, high-resolution, 3D image of the surgical site. The console is equipped with controls the surgeon uses to precisely manipulate the robotic arms. The robotic arms are fitted with special surgical instruments that precisely reproduce the movement of the human hand, wrist and fingers.

Conditions and procedures

HCC surgeons are using robotic surgery to treat a variety of conditions:

Gynecologic conditions, including gynecologic cancers, and benign conditions like endometriosis, adenomyosis, uterine fibroids, ovarian remnant and others. Learn more about gynecologic surgery.

Urologic conditions, including prostate cancer, kidney cancer and other benign kidney disorders. Learn more about urologic surgery.

Other surgical procedures: HCC will soon begin offering robotic surgery for colorectal surgery and other general surgical procedures. Learn more about other surgical procedures.
