Laparoscopic surgery
Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive surgical technique that uses small incisions. A laparoscope - a thin tube with a camera on the end - is inserted in one incision, allowing the surgeon to view the operation site on a television screen. The surgeon then inserts surgical instruments through another incision to perform the operation.
Laparoscopic surgery can be used in numerous procedures, including weight-loss surgery and gallbladder, colorectal, prostate and other procedures.
Advantages
For many patients, laparoscopic surgery means less post-operative pain, shorter hospital stays and quicker recovery.
