Endoscopy

An endoscope - a long, flexible tube with a camera on the end - allows physicians to look inside the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract for any abnormalities.

Colonoscopy

Allows physicians to examine the lining of the colon for abnormalities; diagnose colon and rectal problems, including cancer; perform biopsies; and remove colon polyps.

Bronchoscopy

A thin tube with a tiny camera on the end is inserted through the nose or mouth into the lungs, allowing the physician to collect lung secretions and biopsy tissue specimens.

Before discharge from the Ambulatory Surgery and Endoscopy units, patients and their family members are given detailed instructions about home care, as well as department and physician phone numbers to call if questions remain.
