Angioplasty and stenting

This is a minimally invasive procedure to eliminate plaque that's blocking arteries. A catheter is inserted into your groin area and guided to the blockage using a special X-ray image. During the angioplasty, a tiny balloon is inserted through the catheter into the artery and expanded one or more times to break up the plaque. To keep the artery open, the doctor may then insert a narrow, wire mesh tube called a stent. Once in place at the former blockage site, the stent can be expanded to hold the artery open.
