Healthy Family FunFest Feb. 24 at Aqua Turf Club, Plantsville

[February 20 2013] - Want to learn how you and your family can live healthy and happy? Come to the Healthy Family FunFest, Sunday, Feb. 24, 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville. Admission is free and non-perishable food items will be collected for Southington's Bread for Life.

Presented by The Hospital of Central Connecticut (HOCC), Central Connecticut Senior Health Services and the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCAs, this fun-filled event will feature information and activities for people of all ages, including:

Balance screenings
Blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and bone density checks, and kids' dental screenings
Child care seat safety check
Connecticut Icon singers
Green living tips
Kids' area, with an obstacle course, races, DJ and other fun activities
Pet therapy dog visits
Petting zoo
Senior health screenings, giveaways & info
Tips from health experts on eating right, exercising and many other health topics

In addition, Healthy Family FunFest will include a 12:30 p.m. presentation by Emmy award winning TV journalist Diane Smith who co-authored the soon-to-be-released book Obsessed with MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski. Smith co-wrote the book about solving America's obesity crisis, while trying to lose weight and regain her own health. She will talk about Brzezinski's challenge that she lose 75 pounds and will reveal how HOCC medical staff member Thomas Lane, M.D., and the hospital's Take Off Program is changing her life. Following her presentation Smith will meet and greet guests until 1:45 p.m. and will raffle off copies of her bestselling books Seasons of Connecticut and A Connecticut Christmas.
