Hartford HealthCare's June 16 Walk with a Doc in Cheshire
[June 14 2012] -
Hartford HealthCare's next Walk with a Doc will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 16 at Farmington Canal Linear Park, Cheshire. It will include a 30-minute walk and health tips from Walt Kupson, D.O., an urgent care physician, who will discuss preventing Lyme disease.
Sign-in is at 8:30 a.m. New participants will receive a hat and pedometer; each walker will receive a water bottle. The walk in Cheshire will begin from Lock 12 Historical Park, off Rt. 42. Event host is MidState Medical Center.
Walks will continue on a monthly basis through December among varied Hartford HealthCare affiliates. On July 21, The Hospital of Central Connecticut (HOCC) will host a walk at Rockwell Park, Bristol, where dermatologist Christopher Norwood, M.D., will talk about sunscreens and sun safety.
In 2010, HOCC was the first hospital in New England to join Just Walk, a Walk with a Doc program that hosts free community walks at area parks that are led by doctors and stress the benefits of exercise while providing health tips. Starting this year, Walk with a Doc is a Hartford HealthCare systemwide program. Other Hartford HealthCare entities involved in the walk program are Doctors of Central Connecticut, Hartford Hospital, Hartford Medical Group and MidState Medical Group. Sponsors are Anthem and HPC Foodservice.
Walk with a Doc was started in 2005 by a cardiologist in Ohio. There are more than 60 active Walk with a Doc sites, including in Abu Dhabi, Canada and India. To register, or for more information, please visit www.hartfordhealthcare.org/walkwithadoc or call 1-877-914-WALK.
