Hospital's Comprehensive Breast Center named a Certified Quality Breast Center

[May 04 2012] - The Hospital of Central Connecticut's Comprehensive Breast Center was recently recognized by the National Consortium of Breast Centers, Inc. as a Certified Quality Breast Center through its National Quality Measures for Breast CentersTM (NQMBC) Program.

The hospital's center is one of 18 Certified Quality Breast centers in the United States and the only one in Connecticut. This recognition is indicative of the hospital's commitment to providing the highest level of quality breast health care to patients in its community and signifies its aim to become a Certified Quality Breast Center of Excellence.

The hospital's comprehensive breast program is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. It includes two breast navigators and weekly breast conference meetings. Nurse navigators guide patients through the healthcare system from diagnosis through treatment. Among the program's educational initiatives are survivorship workshops and manuals for patients with breast cancer. For program information, please contact Nurse Navigator Bethany Carr, R.N., B.S.N., at 860-827-0525 option 4 or visit http://www.thocc.org/services/breast/nurse.aspx .

With a focus on excellence in breast health care, the National Consortium of Breast Centers supports healthcare practitioners with varied educational programs, newsletters, a national directory and patient forums. It also furthers collaborative research on breast health issues and has set measures for quality standards in breast healthcare programs and for quality performance in breast healthcare facilities.
