Student Nurses Look over X-Rays and Diagrams as a Team Student Nurse
Internship Program


The Hospital of Central Connecticut's Student Nurse Internship Program provides selected BSN students with a full-time summer employment opportunity designed to enhance clinical skills in the acute care teaching hospital environment.
Available to BSN students who are entering the senior year, Interns work in a one-on-one relationship with a Registered Nurse Mentor performing some licensed functions in the practice area of their choice.

In addition to hands on experience Interns attend education sessions, job shadow in other specialties, and present clinical topics to their peers, mentors, and members of nursing leadership. In the Student Nurse Intern program student nurses will improve clinical assessment and organizational skills.

Student Nurse Technician Program

Nursing students who have completed one semester of clinical experience can work up to full-time in the specialty area of their choice. Our student nursing technician program provides outstanding opportunities for student nurses to enhance their clinical skills.

Student Nurses are offered:
  • Competency-based orientation.
  • Paid RN shadow experience in specialty areas of your choice.
  • Enhanced opportunities to view special procedures.
  • Student Nurse discussion groups.
  • Summer educational series providing both clinical enhancement and professional development opportunities.
  • Special social events for Student Nurse Technicians.
Inexperienced Student Nurse Technician Program
New Britain General campus

Once a year (in May) The Hospital of Central Connecticut offers an extended orientation for nursing students who are enrolled in a BSN program, but have not yet entered the clinical arena. Training includes activities of daily living, vital signs instruction, and other basic nursing skills. Students may then work up to full time in medical/surgical areas for the summer and throughout the school year.
